Known for her marketing ability and gift for discovering rare artistic talent, Garcia has transformed many of the artists in her stable into household words in the state of Kansas. Many of her "Prairie Renaissance Artists" have received national and international prominence under her tutelage. She has been a tireless advocate for the arts and art education in her home state. She serves on numerous boards and is a member of three local Chambers of Commerce in surrounding communities.
Garcia has consulted and placed art for numerous nationally renowned art collections including Sprint, Dupont New York, Farmers Insurance International, Emprise Bank, Kansas Bankers Assoc., George Lucas Studios, Payless Shoe Source International Headquarters, Hills Pet Foods International, The Mayo Family, The Anschutz Foundation, The Hadley Foundation Art Collection, Mr. & Mrs. Ross Beach of the Mirianna Beach Museum in Manhattan KS., Carnegie Mellon Museum, the Smithsonian Museum, and Yellow Freight Corporation to name a few.
Originally from San Francisco, Garcia was groomed under the wing of legendary art dealer, Jack Swanson. The galleries he owned, Swanson Art Galleries Ltd. were a chain of fine art galleries that spanned the nation from the early 1960's into the late 1980's. Garcia was promoted to Gallery Director and Director of Publishing in 1986. It was in 1989 that upon currating a Midwestern exhibit that she came to know several artists from the state of Kansas. Impressed with their abundance of talent and lack of venues to show their works, she conducted marketing research and discovered there were very few galleries in the state of Kansas. In 1990 she resigned from her position with Swanson Galleries Ltd. and moved to Lawrence Kansas. Phoenix Gallery was opened the following year.
Phoenix Gallery has enjoyed collaborating with the Hays Art Center since the inception of the gallery. Every year they join to produce several exhibits that bring the "Prairie Renaissance Artists" and lecture series to the center. Garcia founded Prairie Renaissance Art Inc. in 2005 as a vehicle to continue the art and educational programs in the schools and art centers of Topeka, Hays and surrounding rural communities, with hopes to spread the programs and curriculum nationally.
