Painting primarily with transparent watercolor, my paintings depict the natural landscape, drawing subject matter from my own photographs and on-site sketches. While I use these as my starting point, my compositions are more often an interpretation of the landscape, rather than a strict depiction. My work enters a realm of heightened, abstract colors, and the unique qualities of transparent watercolor lend the paintings a sense of luminosity that I believe cannot be duplicated with any other media. Forgoing the more common method of glazing layers of transparent watercolor to build value and chroma, I prefer instead to apply the paint with intense, saturated color, often allowing areas of color to bleed into one another to create color and textural transitions that echo those found in nature.

A native midwesterner, she travels throughout the Midwest and the West gathering her subject matter..  She paints primarily in transparent watercolor, depicting the natural landscape drawn from her own photographs and on site sketches. Her paintings are more often an interpretation of the landscape rather than a strict depiction.  There is often little more than an occasional fencepost to indicate any human presence in her work.
