Preserving  and Promoting the Prairie Through Art Education

Prairie Penaissance Arts Inc. is a newly established Not-for-Profit  501 (C)3. We offer a variety of visual arts in education venues to educate about the Kansas prairie art genre in relation to Kansas' prairie history and ecology. Through and from some of your favorite Kansas painters.

                                                                             Judith Mackey  "Spring Sky"

Our mission is two fold:

1. To promote the Kansas prairie and to bring attention to the importance of preserving our native grasslands of which only 2% remains in the country, most of which is in Kansas.

2. To protect, celebrate and perpetuate the artistic process through art education of the young, young at heart, the special needs and disabled community.

Art as an Expression of Culture

Mythos: The artists' role is important in defining our society today for the cultural history of tomorrow.  The artistic community is the adhesive that binds the human society, culture and spirit together.

Prairie Renaissance Artists paint the Kansas Prairie because they love it.  In their paintings, the prairie is reflected as a personal statement, through each artists' perceived reality of experience.

Through our PRA, Inc. educational programs we teach and explore the reality and relationship of the artistic statement.

Costs, Target Audience and Artist Availabilty

Program costs are determined by length of your program, number of artists involved, number of additional facilitators involved, hourly of artist instruction time, special art projects, add ons, touring programs, assessment add ons, etc.  We tailor the program to fit your educational requirement and your budget. Since we are a not-for-profit many of the PRA, Inc.hours of involvement by our staff is in-kind.

Target audience: We can tailor programs for ages K-8, 9-college and the elderly.

Artist involvement is paid. In order to promote the Prairie through art we need to keep our artists painting. One of our main goals is to support our Kansas artists.

Artist availability: All artists may not be available.  We work very closely with our artists to make sure they fit into your program and that they are available in your time period.  Not all artists are available to do all segments of programming.

Once there is a match and the artist has agreed to be part of your program, a contract is written to insure your program will be an experience all will remember. Some artists may facilitate workshops near their home base, but prefer not to travel far outside; Judith Mackey prefers is one of those artists, she prefers to stay close to her Flint Hills home. Other artists enjoy facilitating outside their home bases or abroad. Again our program facilitators match our artists with each program.  We may also go outside our list of six artists if a contracting agent wants an artist from a foreign land.  For example we are currently writing a program were a Mexican artist will be interfacing with one of our prairie artists to parallel Mexican art to that of the Prairie Painters.

WHERE DO YOUR DONATION DOLLARS GO?

Donations to Pra, Inc. go to supporting our Kansas Prairie art and education programs and promoting the preservation of the native grasslands through art education.

Much of your donation goes directly to support the prairie artists to pay them for their involvement in this program.  We need to support our artists to enable them to continue painting. The artists are paid based on a per  hourly basis and by the over all scope of a project. For example we are currently writing a program where artist David Gross will be painting a large permanent mural with children.

Phoenix Gallery donates in-kind (free) services to PRA, Inc. Phoenix Gallery funded the launching of PRA, Inc. for the Judith Mackey Exhibit.
